Episode 358: Sitting Like Our Ancestors: The Key to Musculoskeletal Well-Being

Episode 358: Sitting Like Our Ancestors: The Key to Musculoskeletal Well-Being

Have you ever considered the benefits of sitting on the floor instead of in a chair? In my Fitness Friday episode of The Habits and Hustle podcast, I explore this fascinating topic with my guest, Aaron Alexander, an expert on functional movement and health.

Spending time on the ground, as many healthy cultures around the world do, can have a profound impact on your musculoskeletal well-being, digestion, and circulation. Aaron explains that sitting on the floor helps to heal the joints, bring new fluids to the joints, circulate lymphatic fluid, and improve digestion by keeping your legs closer to your vital organs.
You'll also discover the concept of "neat" (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) and how incorporating more movement into your daily life can lead to significant health improvements.

Aaron Alexander is a Movement Coach, Creator of the Align Method, Author, and Podcast Host.

    What we discuss:

The benefits of sitting on the floor compared to sitting in a chair

Low incidence of osteoarthritis in cultures that spend more time on the ground

Improved digestion when sitting on the floor

Better circulation and lymphatic fluid movement when sitting on the ground

The concept of NEAT and its importance for health

The dangers of outsourcing mechanical efficiency to devices like chairs

The importance of wiggling and moving while sitting, whether on the floor or in a chair

The ideal position for the spine and hips when sitting on the ground

Episode 355: Beth Wilkes Feraco’s Real Talk on Health, Fitness, Sobriety, and Social Media

Are you sick of extreme diets, unnecessary restrictions, and the constant fear-mongering in the wellness world?

In today’s episode of The Habits & Hustle Podcast, I chat with Beth Wilkes Feraco, a strength and nutrition coach who's cutting through the crap and keeping it real. Beth's refreshing, no-nonsense approach to health and fitness is exactly what we need more of on social media.

Episode 354: In memory of Jerry West: A Journey of Resilience, Basketball Excellence, and Leadership Wisdom

Episode 354: In memory of Jerry West: A Journey of Resilience, Basketball Excellence, and Leadership Wisdom

What does it take to turn childhood struggles into a legendary career?

In memory of the man, the myth and the legend, Jerry West, I am publishing this episode of the Habits & Hustle podcast where I had the privilege of sitting down with Jerry for an inspiring conversation that talks deep into his tumultuous childhood, his rise to athletic greatness, and the enduring legacy he continues to build.

As we trace Jerry's path to athletic success, we talked about his reflections on leadership, emotional intelligence, and the importance of honesty and respect in all interactions and more! His candid discussion about his strongest and weakest traits offers a glimpse into the personal philosophy that has guided him throughout his life.
Tune in this episode to gain a deeper understanding of the man behind the icon and the lessons we can all learn from his extraordinary journey.

Jerry West was an American basketball player, coach, and general manager who spent four noteworthy decades with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). West is widely considered one of the sport’s greatest players and later was hugely influential as a coach and executive. Perhaps the greatest testament to his enduring impact on basketball is the fact that a photo of West serves as the model for the ubiquitous red, white, and blue NBA logo.

Very relatable and interesting!

I love listening to Jen and her wholesome advice. Not on does she touch on unique topics, but the information and perspectives are applicable in everyday life. I highly recommend listening to the podcast!

Generally good

I don’t listen to every podcast, just depends on the guest and subject (probably 1/3). I like Jennifer as a host, she brings infectious positive energy to her interviews. I recently listened to the interview with Beth Wilkes Feraco and enjoyed it and will start following her. The only thing I didn’t enjoy is that it seemed like she was lying when asked if she knew of Mary Claire Haver. A woman in her 50s working in the women’s wellness space (specifically nutrition), and hasn’t heard of her? If being truthful, I question her commitment to her professional life. If she was lying, why the insecurity?

Finally someone with moral clarity

I just discovered you when I was looking for episodes about Akkermansia. But then I looked back and saw all your pro Israel episodes, and I’m so thrilled to have discovered a Jewish wellness podcaster who has the courage to stand up for her Jewish identity and expose the lies and hypocrisy the world is perpetuating now. As an orthodox Jewish woman and a lover of Israel I am so grateful for your presence in the podcast world.
