Ologies with Alie Ward

Volcanoes. Trees. Drunk butterflies. Mars missions. Slug sex. Death. Beauty standards. Anxiety busters. Beer science. Bee drama. Take away a pocket full of science knowledge and charming, bizarre stories about what fuels these professional -ologists' obsessions. Humorist and science correspondent Alie Ward asks smart people stupid questions and the answers might change your life.

I. Love. Ologies.

Longtime Ologite here. Alie, my favorite pod-dad, and her guests have filled my brain with knowledge, led me down plenty of rabbit holes, calmed my spiraling mind with a bit of sanity and much needed distraction at times and just entertained me for years. I still cannot get enough. Thank you, Alie. For anyone complaining about “explicit”, it’s in the description as well as in the podcast (🤦🏼♀️)…check out Smologies instead.
Learn cool stuff and do important things!

There very first Ologies podcast i listened to was about Allie’s colonoscopy! Which made me ask my family some questions, go see a GI doc because of what I learned, and schedule the procedure (going soon!). Then I listened to everything including the one about eclipses, which tilted the scales for driving 6 hours with two small kids and my husband. AND GUESS WHAT?? I met Allie on a small beach in Ohio at the eclipse! And I got to be on the podcast! She was supposed to be in Texas! I love all the wild, wonderful, curious, terrifying, delightful things Allie and the ologists teach me. BTW if you want to talk about why the WHO says the midwifery model of care can prevent 80% of maternal deaths, call me - Midwife-ologist here!

Alie Ward provides the world with a ton of enlightenment, exuberance and delight with each episode. (My best mitigation for the world’s chaos.)
Love this show! I also have a absolute need to hear about cryopedology

Hi Alie, I am so so grateful for your creativity, enthusiasm, willingness to inject fun into science, and ask funky questions to amazing guests. I would love love love to hear about cryopedology (the study of permafrost affected soils and permafrost landscape change) on this show. Megan Andersen would be an amazing guest for this! She is a ice and soil reader and ice detective. She studies permafrost affected soils, cryostructures, and cryogenic soil structure. She has some amazing stories from the landscapes below our feet in the remote areas of Alaska and Canada, these landscapes holding 33% of our earths carbon and landscapes that are changing faster than other places on earth. What happens in Alaska doesn’t stay in Alaska- it impacts all of us! We all need to get the lowdown underground on these landscapes that are increasingly vulnerable to obliterating our climate….
